A New Chapter, Two Years Later

Stories don’t always unfold the way we expect them to. Sometimes they evolve long after the cameras stop rolling, reshaping themselves in ways we never could have planned. Blind Momentum has officially entered that territory.

On December 9, 2023, Laura King Edwards stepped up to the starting line of South Carolina’s Kiawah Island Half Marathon with her guide, Andrew Swistak. Race morning nerves weren’t new to her. She’s faced down plenty of starting lines. But this one carried a different weight. She was about to attempt something not only difficult but extremely dangerous: setting the world record for the fastest blindfolded half marathon by a female, without a tether, on a live course with thousands of runners, all while relying on a surgically reconstructed and synthetically supported left ankle.

Today, two years later, her result is officially ratified.

Laura is now the world record holder for the fastest blindfolded half marathon by a female.

This extraordinary update changes everything, including our film.

What was once the ending of our documentary is now the midpoint of a much bigger story. It means re-edits, new production days, and a fresh lens on what Blind Momentum truly captures. This isn’t just a film about an attempt anymore. It’s a film about perseverance over years, not miles. About belief outlasting uncertainty. About a woman who ran blind not just on a course, but through grief, advocacy, motherhood, and the relentless stretching of her own limits.

And I’ll be honest: with this new ending comes a bit of relief for me as a director and editor. Post-production has taken longer than I ever intended. Running a business, becoming a mom, and trying to make a feature documentary all at once is a lot. Add in the reality of not receiving as much funding as we’d hoped for, and the climb became even steeper. I’ve carried some guilt about the timeline, though guilt has a funny way of showing up in the creative process even when you’re giving everything you have.

But this new chapter feels like a gift. A reminder that the story wasn’t meant to be finished yet. And maybe we weren’t either.

We’re stepping back into production energized, grateful, and honestly a little emotional about where this journey has taken us. Blind Momentum has always been about pushing forward with heart, even when the path is unclear. Laura’s newly ratified world record is the perfect embodiment of that spirit.

More updates to come. Thank you for following our journey.
